Readathon: 24 in 48

This past weekend i decided to join in the famous 24in48 Readathon, for those of you that do not know what a readathon is, well it's a type of "marathon," which is defined as "An event or activity that requires prolonged effort or endurance."

In this case, it's a reading marathon!

The 24in48 one is where you are supposed to read 24 hours during the 48 of the weekend (or of 48 hours in general). This particular readathon has a proper page and i will leave the link down bellow for you guy's to check it out.

Now for my experience in this first try, of course i was almost sure i will not be able to achieve the 24 hours mark but at the end i was so happy with my result. I spend a total of 11:15:05 hours reading during the weekend divided between Saturday (4:46:56) and Sunday (6:28:09).

As for the books i finish Everless by Sara Holland (witch i start at page 114), read The assassin and the Pirate Lord by Sarah J. Mass (70 pages since it was a short story) and listen to Winter by Marissa Meyer in audiobook (4:09:03).

In resume i read 3 different books in a total of 324 pages and 11:15:05 hours =D It was an amazing experience that i recommend to everyone who loves to read. For me it was not something that requires prolonged effort because i like spending my free time reading and i do not force myself to do it just because i was in a Readathon.

As for the hostess of this challenge i have to thanks them  for all re support and the encouragement they show during this weekend, i don't feel alone and to read with a community for me was the best of this weekend.

I will be participate in the next one for sure =D

Book Review: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter #1) by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

by J.K. Rowling

"Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw … Twenty years ago these magical words and many more flowed from a young writer’s pen, an orphan called Harry Potter was freed from the cupboard under the stairs – and a global phenomenon started. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has been read and loved by every new generation since. To mark the 20th anniversary of first publication, Bloomsbury is publishing four House Editions of J.K. Rowling’s modern classic. These stunning editions will each feature the individual house crest on the jacket and sprayed edges in the house colours. Exciting new extra content will include fact files, profiles of favourite characters and line illustrations exclusive to that house. Available for a limited period only, these highly collectable editions will be a must-have for all Harry Potter fans in 2017)
Harry Potter's life is miserable. His parents are dead and he's stuck with his heartless relatives, who force him to live in a tiny closet under the stairs. But his fortune changes when he receives a letter that tells him the truth about himself: he's a wizard. A mysterious visitor rescues him from his relatives and takes him to his new home, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

After a lifetime of bottling up his magical powers, Harry finally feels like a normal kid. But even within the Wizarding community, he is special. He is the boy who lived: the only person to have ever survived a killing curse inflicted by the evil Lord Voldemort, who launched a brutal takeover of the Wizarding world, only to vanish after failing to kill Harry.

Though Harry's first year at Hogwarts is the best of his life, not everything is perfect. There is a dangerous secret object hidden within the castle walls, and Harry believes it's his responsibility to prevent it from falling into evil hands. But doing so will bring him into contact with forces more terrifying than he ever could have imagined.

Full of sympathetic characters, wildly imaginative situations, and countless exciting details, the first installment in the series assembles an unforgettable magical world and sets the stage for many high-stakes adventures to come. "

My Review:

Every year i reread the Harry Potter books. This year i have already read the Philosopher's Stone twice, the illustrated version i buy in Lisbon 2017 book fair and i read it in August and now i received in a monthly subscription box the exclusive Ravenclaw House Edition to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first publication of this book and since i'm participating in a challenge called Pottermania2 i decided to reread again.

First let me talk a little about this two editions of this book.

All my Harry Potter books are in Portuguese (my natural language) and of course when i see the illustrated version i want to buy it too. The book is a little expensive and i delay the buy for a long time, in the book fair there is a hour per day where book released more than 15 months ago have a discount of 50% so i decided that the time to buy this book has finally arrived.
The book cost a total of 34.90 € (about 31.44£) and i end up buying it for 17.45 € and OMG i really love it.

The illustrations are breathtaking and it makes us fell a little more magic when reading it because of them. There are design in almost ever page and here i leave some of my favorite ones.

The second edition i read this year is the Ravenclaw House Edition, released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and of course the color of the cover and the pages ends are blue in my book.
There are 4 different covers for this edition depending on the house you choose and i love this type of personalized stuff and the attention to details.

In the beginning and end of each book we have a few extra pages with curiosities about the house (Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Gryffindor) like house ghost, founder where do the common room is located, etc....

I really like both versions and i know some people will think me crazy because in the end these are the same book that i already have.... but for me is so much more that a book and i would not fell that my collection is completed without these two books.

About the actual story what can i say.... This is the first book in the Harry Potter saga where we readers are introduced to the magic of this world and to all the amazing characters that Rowling create.

For me it is always be a emotional book and it will always be magical and special, of course the Wow factor that i obtain from the first time i read it is now absent in the rereads, just because i already know the twists and plots of the story. This do not prejudice my reading a bit and i have to tell that i really like to reread this one and be extremely careful to find all the little clues the author gives in this book for what is to come in the saga.

When i think of it, OMG, the intricate work that was behind this book and the imagination Rowling have.... i'm speechless really.

I could not give this one 5* but definitely i gave it 4 or maybe 4.5* just because of all the book i think this is the only a little childish.
But for those of you (and i do not think there is many) that never hear about Harry Potter please read this book and welcome to Hogwarts!
